Description
Behavioral health professionals face challenges with increasing workloads, longer waitlists, increasing severity of patient symptoms, and rising levels of burnout. Individual-level interventions, while helpful, are insufficient in addressing burnout. Organizational-level strategies show greater promise in addressing systemic contributing factors to burnout. The first section of this workshop will describe a systematic review of interventions to address burnout in the behavioral health workforce. Multi-component interventions lasting at least 12 months were successful in reducing burnout and improving work-related attitudes. The second section will describe approaches to plan, implement, and evaluate interventions, such as conducting a needs assessment to understand organizational context, identifying resources and organizational support, and planning for long-term sustainability. Finally, the workshop will cover human skills, such as communication (especially communication with decision makers), collaboration, research, leadership, and a human-centered focus, that are position psychologists to advocate for and implement change. Where available, information about and related to neuropsychology will be highlighted.

1. Identify organizational-level strategies to address burnout in the behavioral health workforce.
